2016 SPORTING BV Benefit Game
Held WEDNESDAY MAY 4th, 2016 - 7:00 pm - OPSC Field #1

What is the history of this game?
In the fall of 2010, premier Coach Craig Scriven coordinated a game with his team BVSC STARS Metro United team playing an array of premier coaches – all to benefit the Andrew Hurd Scholarship Fund at Gardner High School, as Andrew had been a player for Metro United. The next spring, a similar game was played – Premier Coaches vs. the Kansas State Champion BVSC STARS Newcastle team. This game benefited the SPORTING Blue Valley Scholarship Fund. Club families attended and cheered on their favorite players/coaches – some players even painted glittery signs to cheer on their favorite coaches! The game was a success from all perspectives – especially for the players on the winning Newcastle Team!! It was soon decided that an annual spring game would take place – premier coaches playing one of the top teams in the club. It was also determined that the donations received from this annual game would benefit the SPORTING Blue Valley Scholarship Fund.

What is the SPORTING Blue Valley Scholarship Fund?
The scholarship fund helps those families that qualify based on financial need. For recreational/premier players it can pay for registration fees, annual premier club fee, or Heartland league fees. SPORTING Blue Valley has been fortunate to bring in players from all over Kansas and Missouri – not just Johnson County. Financial need is everywhere, but as our boundaries have widened, we see the need for scholarships increasing every year. SPORTING Blue Valley strives to bring “Soccer for Everyone” – and this scholarship fund allows us to better achieve that goal.

When is the SPORTING Blue Valley Annual Benefit Game?
The 2015 game was held on Wednesday May 6th at Scheels Overland Park Soccer Complex – 13700 Switzer Rd. Overland Park, KS 66221 – on Field #1.  The 2016 SBV Benefit Game will be played on Wednesday, May 4 at 7:00pm.

Is there an admission charge for the game?
There is no admission charge to watch the game. Donations, however, will be collected at the gates and also during the game. Players, Coaches and Referees volunteer their time to play in this game – so ALL donations will go directly into the Scholarship Fund. We would love to see families, teams, and businesses join together to consider making a donation on game night. We thank you in advance for your generosity.
